The Human Digestive system!
Overall , digestion is relevant for the human body and animals because it breaks down the food that you take in and turns it into nutrients. They need to be transformed into smaller molecules. There are two types of digestion, chemical and mechanical. Chemical digestion are strong acids that dissolve food to form chyme. Pepsin (enzyme) is what breaks down proteins and food. Mechanical digestion is when the stomach churns the food. These nutrients give you energy (ATP) which go through the large intestine. The small intestine is where nutrients are being absorbed. Digestion starts in the mouth where enzymes are released. The food moves through the pharynx. Before that the epiglottis helps keep the things we eat out of the lungs when we swallow. It goes through the esophagus and the gallbladder releases bile to help digest the fats. We then exit the food in the anus. If this doesn't help understand how people digest maybe the process of cellular respiration does. It allows the organisms to store in energy(C6H12O6) Guys, the smaller the chemical bonds the better! Nutrients are transported how? they are transported by our blood streams, which are broken down into the intestines.
Sloth Digestion!
The digestion of sloths, is typically very slow, it takes them over a week to fully digest. They can also rely on their bacteria and only defecate every 8 days Fun fact: Sloths can starve with a full stomach! Their digestive system is really slow to digest because they are arboreal folivores (leaf eating), and their body temperatures rise every day. Three- toed sloths have a weird stomach, they can live on particular things. They have a very strict diet. When digesting leaves they choose specific types such as Lacmella Panamensis (it is easy to digest.) Sloth Digestion is necessary for their survival because their rate of digestion is dependent on the temperature. If its night time or they are in the shade in order to regulate their body temperature.
